Looking Up

A close friend of mine is terminally ill with cancer and has given permission to a documentary filmmaker to film her process of dying. She told me a story of walking across a university campus and seeing everyone looking down, plugged into their phones and she felt this overwhelming urge to shout to all of them to look up at the sky. In the process of dying she is truly finding what living is, and it is about the moments we take for granted. Like the beautiful transience of a sky, the impermanence of this life is what makes it so special. This series is about my own process of looking up and finding inspiration in the abstraction and the realism of small daily moments.
